Digital Physics (Fredkin-s Informational Monism)
Definition: A theoretical framework in physics asserting that the universe is fundamentally computational, treating physical laws as executing software algorithms rather than continuous variables. The metaphysical proposition that the universe is fundamentally a computational system, made of bits, information, or logic gates – with the strong form (Fredkin’s) claiming that all physical laws arise from information processing.
The Masking Mechanism: The mask is the use of “digital physics” and “informational monism” as if they were established scientific frameworks. They are rooted in legitimate science (information theory, quantum computing, cellular automata), but they are philosophical positions – not empirical theories. The mask hides the fact that no experiment can prove the universe is information; it is a poetic choice, not a physical finding.
Cellular Automata Scaling – This real, extreme physics hypothesis claims the entire universe is made of bits (0s and 1s), and spacetime is a massive computer screen. It uses the legitimate mathematics of discrete calculus and grid-based computation to camouflage the unprovable claim that nature has a programmer.
Genuine Parallel: Conway’s Game of Life and Cellular Automata theory. Digital physics is a legitimate philosophical interpretation of physics, associated with thinkers like Edward Fredkin, John Wheeler (“it from bit”), and Stephen Wolfram. It is respected as speculative metaphysics, but not as established physics.
