Original Caption: At Lescowatz, Serbia, The American Red Cross members saw their first Albanian refugees. They had left the village of Elbassan in May 1918 and were sent to Jagodina, Serbia, by Bulgarians and Austrians, who had destroyed the village of Elbassan. The refugees were lacked clothing and nourishment. They had been in this hut for six days during which time five or six had died. The Red Cross discovered a woman who had died in child birth without medical attention.<\/p>\n

HM-15 is currently embarked on USS INCHON which is operating in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Sea, supporting Operation Sustain Hope, a joint, combined NATO and U.S. military humanitarian relief effort in conjunction with civilian relief agencies.
\nOperation Sustain Hope is bringing relief to thousands of refugees created from the recent unrest in the Kosovo region.<\/p>\n

During “Provide Refugee” the Joint Task Force (JTF) was prepared to receive, house and process up to 20,000 ethnic Albanian refugees. The refugee village was set up in the old brigade area of Fort Dix.
\nIn the photo, some of the few remaining Kosovo refugees sit in the audience along with soldiers, civilian employees and volunteers… They gathered during the closing ceremony that marks the end of the Joint Task Force (JTF) mission Operation “Provide Refugee” held at the Welcome Center in the “Freedom Village”.<\/p>\n
