Ederlezi is the Romani name for the Feast of Saint George. It is celebrated on 6 May (occurring approximately 40 days after the spring equinox). It was performed by the Macedonian singer <strong>Vaska Jankovska<\/strong>. The song was or is featured on Bijelo Dugme&#8217;s 1988 album \u0106iribiribela under the title &#8220;\u0110ur\u0111evdan&#8221; (&#8220;St. George&#8217;s Day&#8221;). Goran Bregovi\u0107, the frontman of Bijelo Dugme, wrote the Serbo-Croatian lyrics. <\/p>\n<p>According to Wikipedia&#8217;s texts, Bregovi\u0107 also recorded a version with Greek lyrics, titled &#8220;\u03a4\u03bf\u03c5 \u0391\u03b7 \u0393\u03b9\u03ce\u03c1\u03b3\u03b7&#8221; (&#8220;Tou Ai Giorgi&#8221;, &#8220;Saint George&#8217;s&#8221;), with Greek singer Alkistis Protopsalti in 1991. The Greek lyrics are credited to Lina Nikolakopoulou. <\/p>\n<p>Bregovi\u0107 also worked with Turkish singer Sezen Aksu on her album titled D\u00fc\u011f\u00fcn ve Cenaze (A Wedding and a Funeral) featuring a version with Turkish lyrics, titled (&#8220;H\u0131drellez&#8221;) in 1997. The lyrics were adapted by Aksu and Pakize Bar\u0131\u015fta. <\/p>\n<p>Finally, together with Polish singer Kayah he also recorded a version with Polish lyrics, titled &#8220;Nie ma, nie ma ciebie&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Bulgarian group Ku-Ku Band, with lead singer Slavi Trifonov, released the song on several albums with Bulgarian lyrics, titled &#8220;\u0413\u0435\u0440\u0433\u044c\u043e\u0432\u0434\u0435\u043d&#8221; (&#8220;Gergyovden&#8221;, &#8220;St. George&#8217;s Day&#8221;).<br \/>\n&#8211; Serbo-Bulgarian lyrics, titled &#8220;\u0421\u0432\u0435\u0442\u0438 \u0413\u0435\u043e\u0440\u0433\u0438&#8221; (&#8220;Sveti Georgi&#8221;, &#8220;St. George&#8221;); and Romani-Serbo-Bulgarian lyrics, titled &#8220;Erdelezi&#8221;.<br \/>\n&#8211; The band Beirut, Italian saxophonist Daniele Sepe, and the Boston-based band Bury Me Standing also do covers of &#8220;Ederlezi&#8221;.<br \/>\n&#8211; The Gypsy Rebels of Toronto, Ontario also cover the song, featuring the vocals of Micheal T. Butch and his band.
