Then, once they’ve come out of the dreamlike delirium, it all seems so unbelievable: “How could I have loved someone like that?” One is left wondering. \nAccording to Shakespeare – in his play A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1595-96), something like a stage comedy – King Oberon wants to humiliate Queen Titania with “love’s magic perfume” by making her fall in love with a donkey. And once the enchanted Titania gives him the changeling child – that is, once she has agreed to let the child go to Oberon – the king hastens to undo the spell. When Titania wakes from the enchantment, she initially thinks her feelings for the “donkey” were a dream.<\/p>\n
