Data Centers – Electricity “Monsters” of the Modern World

1 data center is more than enough – it is known that data centers are electricity monsters : )

As of March 2025, there were over 10,000 data centers operating worldwide. The United States alone accounts for more than half of these facilities. Data centers require vast amounts of power and can be genuinely vast in size. The largest in the world is the China Telecom – Inner Mongolia Information Park. The 2 other China’s big data centers (among the world’s Top-10) are Harbin Data Center, and Range International Information Hub.

According to “Statista”, as of March 2025, there were a reported 5,426 data centers in the United States alone, the most of any country worldwide. A further 529 were located in Germany, while 523 were located in the United Kingdom.

A data center is a network of computing and storage resources that enables the delivery of shared software applications and data. These facilities can house large amounts of critical and important data, and therefore are vital to the daily functions of companies and consumers alike. As a result, whether it is a cloud, colocation, or managed service, data center real estate will have increasing importance worldwide.

Hyperscale data centers – In the past, data centers were highly controlled physical infrastructures, but the cloud has since changed that model. A cloud data service is a remote version of a data center – located somewhere away from a company’s physical premises. Cloud IT infrastructure spending has grown and is forecast to rise further in the coming years. The evolution of technology, along with the rapid growth in demand for data across the globe, is largely driven by the leading hyperscale data center providers.

According to “Internet Society”, in Albania there are 6 data centers and 1 active IXP. Albania’s overall Internet resilience score is around 50%, which means it has medium capacity to withstand unexpected faults or challenges to normal operation. In Albania approximately 83% of the population is an Internet user. Also they say Albania has 116 active networks (which are the building blocks of the Internet, identified by Autonomous System (AS) numbers).

Kosovo so far has only 1 data center (IllySoft LLC Data center in Pristina – probably more than enough, you need at least 1, sometimes you have to send / receive business e-mails too, you may NOT allowe yourself 0 data centers, otherwise it is known that data centers are electricity monsters : )
