Callirhoe

(Καλλιρρόη) - A Naiad nymph of Akarnania who lived in close intimacy with Zeus. Originally the wife of the hero Alcmaeon, she was left a grieving widow when her husband was murdered over the cursed necklace and robe of Harmonia. Because she was greatly loved by Zeus, Callirhoe prayed to the king of Olympus to grant a miraculous favor: to make her infant sons, Amphoterus and Acarnan, instantly grow into manhood so they could immediately avenge their father’s death. Moved by his affection for her, Zeus granted the request, and the boys aged overnight to successfully slay the murderers.

(1) (Kallirhoe) - The Oceanid wife of the giant Chrysaor who begged her son Geryon not to fight Heracles.

(2) (Kallirroe) - A naiad-nymph daughter of the river Achelous who married the hero Alcmaeon. She demanded the famed necklace of Harmonia for a bridal gift - a cursed piece of jewelry which would doom their family.

(3) (Kallirhoe) - A naiad daughter of the river Scamander who married one of the kings of Troy.
