In the distant future, the known universe is governed by the Padishah Emperor Shaddham Corrino IV; the most precious substance in its vast feudal galactic empire is the spice, which prolongs life, increases consciousness and is vital for space travel. The Space Skill and Navigators use spice melange to travel instantly through safe space to any part of the universe.

Feeling a potential threat to the production of spice, the Space Guild sends an emissary to demand an explanation from the emperor, who has confidentially revealed plans to destroy the House of Atreides. The popularity of Duke Leto Atreides is growing, he is suspected of having gathered a secret army using Sonic weapons called Weirding Module, thus becoming a threat to the emperor. Shaddam’s plan is to provide control of the House Atreides the planet Arrakis, the only source of spice, to fall there in the trap stretched by their ancient enemies, the Khakonnes. The navigator (a mutant) orders the Emperor to kill the Duke’s son, Paul Atreides, a young man with prophetic visions. The order draws the attention of the Bene Gesseri brotherhood, as Paul is part of their centuries-long genetic program of production on the Kwisatz Haderach. Paul is being tested by Cute Mother Bene Gesserit Gaius Helen Mohiam.
