Face Dancer
A Face Dancer is a Tleilaxu member who can shapeshift into another person. It absolutely breaks the laws of biology and physics! Shifting bone structures and
changing body mass in seconds is pure sci-fi body horror. A Face Dancer is the ultimate weapon of the Bene Tleilax (the same faction that creates those horrific Axlotl Tanks). A Face Dancer is a biologically engineered human who can completely morph their physical appearance, voice, scent, and body shape to perfectly mimic any other person. They do not use technology or holograms, their skin, muscles, and bones are completely malleable, shifting like living clay. The original, default state of a Face Dancer is a genderless, bland, featureless humanoid with pasty skin. When they “dance”, they can transform into a beautiful woman, a gruff soldier, or a specific noble ruler. Why are they so dangerous? In a feudal universe driven by political backstabbing, Face Dancers are the ultimate assassins and spies. They can kill a Duke or a general, take their place, and rule in their stead without anyone noticing. At first, Face Dancers were just mindless puppets controlled by their masters. However, as the book series progresses, the Tleilaxu engineer them to absorb the actual memories and personalities of the people they copy. This backfires spectacularly: some Face Dancers copy a target so perfectly that they actually become that person mentally, suffering an identity crisis and turning against their masters. They represent the complete loss of identity and truth in a world dominated by genetic manipulation.
