Modern Talking is a Euro disco, synthpop, and dance-pop band from West Berlin, Germany, active in the 1980s and from 1998 to 2003. Modern Talking formed in early 1983 in West Berlin as a duo consisting of Thomas Anders and Dieter Bohlen. Their music was characterized by catchy melodies, extensive use of synthesizers, and dance rhythms characteristic of the European pop sound of the 1980s.

The duo's debut album, The 1st Album (1985), played a key role in their career, featuring the hits "You're My Heart, You're My Soul" and "You Can Win If You Want". The album achieved platinum status in Germany, and one of its singles achieved impressive worldwide sales, reaching number one on the charts.

Modern Talking's discography also includes the albums Let's Talk About Love (1985), Ready for Romance (1986), In the Middle of Nowhere (1986), and Romantic Warriors (1987). Among the most famous singles are "Cheri, Cheri Lady", "Brother Louie", "Atlantis Is Calling (S.O.S. for Love)", "Geronimo's Cadillac" and "Jet Airliner". This collection of albums and singles cemented the duo's status as one of the most successful German pop acts.

Their commercial success remained at world record levels: "You're My Heart, You're My Soul" sold approximately 8 million copies, topped the charts in 35 countries, and held the number one spot in Germany for six weeks. Several singles and albums achieved platinum status and peaked on international charts.

The duo disbanded in 1987 but reunited successfully from 1998 to 2003. After 2003, the band ceased active activity, and both members pursued solo projects. The story of their collaborations and temporary reunions is chronicled in Modern Talking's official discography.

Publicly documented concerts and tours are less common, but their international success and high chart positions suggest large-scale concerts and a robust concert presence during their peak periods. Their influence on the scene was evident in the popularization of European disco and dance-pop.

Modern Talking influenced the development of Euro disco and dance-pop in Europe, and their melodic style became emblematic of the German pop wave of the 1980s. Today, the duo's significance remains: their albums, singles, and awards continue to inspire contemporary artists and listeners. Modern Talking remains one of the most notable figures in German pop music, their music retaining popularity both on streaming platforms and in fan collections.
