Paul van Dyk, born Matthias Paul in 1971, in Eisenhüttenstadt, East Germany, is a renowned German DJ and record producer. He is a pivotal figure in the trance music genre, known for his innovative sound and contributions to electronic music. Paul is known for his significant contributions to the trance music genre since the early 1990s. He has been influential in shaping the sound of trance music, blending melodic elements with energetic beats.

Van Dyk began his career in the early 1990s, gaining recognition with his remix of "Love Stimulation" by Humate in 1993. A breakthrough track was his 1994 single "For An Angel", it became a defining anthem in trance music, showcasing his unique blend of melodies and beats. He was the first artist nominated for a Grammy in the Best Dance/Electronic Album category for his 2003 album "Reflections." He has won 33 awards and received over 70 nominations throughout his career. Van Dyk was voted World No. 1 DJ by DJ Magazine in 2005 and 2006.
