T-Probe
A device brought from the Great Scattering by the Honored Matres. The T-probe got invented to read the genetic memory of a person, it is a horrific, high-tech interrogation device brought back from deep space by the hyper-violent Honored Matres. It looks like a mechanical hood or a web of electrodes that is placed directly onto a victim’s head. Once activated, it does not just read brainwaves, it completely hijacks the victim’s entire central nervous system. Before the T-Probe, the ultimate defense against interrogation was Bene Gesserit training. A Bene Gesserit sister or a highly trained Mentat could easily resist regular physical torture or truth serums by using their conscious mind to switch off their pain receptors or alter their brain chemistry.
The T-Probe completely bypasses the conscious mind. The Body Grid – It maps the electrical pathways of every single nerve cell in the body, transforming the victim’s physical neural network into a literal digital matrix. The Ghost Matrix – Even if the victim’s heart stops or they try to consciously wipe their own memory, the machine can still read the residual electrical charges trapped in their cells. It can print out an absolute, un-bribable digital map of their deepest secrets, memories, and childhood thoughts. Absolute Agony – The process inflicts an artificial, computerized level of nerve pain that is so intense it can completely shatter a person’s sanity within minutes.
Frank Herbert used the T-Probe to show that the galaxy had entered a terrifying new era. For thousands of years, the human mind was the ultimate lockbox. The T-Probe proved that technology had finally caught up. It turned the sacred human body into a hackable computer drive. The only person to ever survive and defeat a T-Probe is a later Ghola clone of Duncan Idaho. Because he had died and been brought back to life so many times, his mind possessed hidden, deep-seated ancestral walls that the machine’s programming simply couldn’t calculate.
