Death Toll in Gaza, and Suffering of Children

Since the conflict began in October 2023, the death toll in Gaza has risen to over 72,285. Independent researchers have previously estimated that at least 70% to 80% of those killed are civilians, including a staggering number of women and children. More than 21,200 children have been reported killed in the Gaza Strip. UN officials have described the scale of these deaths as a ‘stain on our collective conscience’. By mid-2025, systemic starvation, famine was officially declared in parts of Gaza. As of early 2026, nearly 1.6 million people – roughly 75% of the population – continue to face crisis-level hunger or worse. Approximately 101,000 children under five and 37,000 pregnant or breastfeeding women are projected to suffer from acute malnutrition through mid-2026 due to the continued blockade and destruction of food systems.” – Google AI, April 3, 2026, while discussing about “Quiet Strings, Hungry Guns”, by Sky Division
