“I’m Good (Blue)” is a song by French DJ and producer David Guetta, and American singer and songwriter Bebe Rexha. It is an upbeat dance-pop, which interpolates Italian group Eiffel 65’s single “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” from 1998.

“Blue (Da Ba Dee)” is a song by Italian music group Eiffel 65, first released in 1998 in Italy. The following year, in 1999 it reached Nr. 1 in at least 18 countries. Their song-melody has been heavily copied, sampled, remixed, used, reused. In fact, David Guetta’s idea of sampling the old hit is the best example of using something which isn’t yours, and making the best of it, not only reaching commercial success… but even claiming “originality” : )

Of course, Guetta didn’t “plagiarize” anything, it was a business deal. When someone wants to sample an old music, they make a deal with the license holders, generally including a portion of revenue. Eiffel 65, or whoever owns the rights of their song, were compensated accordingly. Yet for many people the song wasn’t transformative enough to earn respect. For many people it’s no different than plagiarism, which compromises the integrity of everything. Doing this way (by sampling an old hit, remember “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” had reached Nr. 1 in at least 18 countries in 1999) it means everyone could do it, there’s no need perhaps to be David Guetta : )

Guetta’s “I’m Good (Blue)” garnered international success by attaining the number one position on rankings in 20 countries and securing a top 10 position in over 15 additional territories. In 2022, the song won an award in the category for the Best Collaboration at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Rexha was one of three ethnic Albanian artists, who were nominated in the same category on the same occasion.

Bebe Rexha

(Bleta Rexha, born 1989), known professionally as Bebe Rexha, is an Albanian-American singer and songwriter. She signed with Warner Records in 2013. Her debut extended play (EP), I Don't Wanna Grow Up came out in 2015. Rexha's debut studio album, Expectations yielded her a nomination for Best New Artist in 2018. After that came her 2nd and 3rd albums, Better Mistakes (2021) and Bebe (2023) - the latter included the single "I'm Good (Blue)" (with David Guetta), which peaked at Nr. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in 22 countries.
